How to make a silhouette from a photo

  1. Upload the photo

    Choose one where the whole subject is in the frame, with ears, tail, legs or hands visible.

  2. Cut out the subject

    If the background is busy, click Cut out the subject with AI and tap the subject. Use Tap to remove for anything attached that you don’t want.

  3. Download the silhouette

    Click Use this cut-out. One color with Silhouette is already selected, so you get one clean shape.

Photos that work best

  • Side views make the most recognisable silhouettes.
  • Clear outlines: a subject that stands out from the background, without motion blur.
  • Nothing cut off by the edge of the photo.

How does the AI cut-out work?

It uses EfficientSAM, a small image model that runs inside your browser. The model downloads once, the first time you use it (about 25 MB), then you tap what to keep and what to remove. Your photo still never leaves your device.

How long does it take?

The first time, the AI model downloads (about 25 MB). Studying a photo usually takes 5 to 20 seconds, longer on older phones. After that, each tap updates the selection almost instantly.

Can I make a stencil?

Yes. After the cut-out, turn on Invert in One color mode: you get the background with the subject cut out.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs on your own device inside this page, so your picture never leaves your browser.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up and no watermark.

Can I convert any picture?

Only convert images you made or have permission to use, especially if you sell what you make.
