Layers
One layer per vinyl color. Bottom layer first. What the converter does
PNG and JPG pictures are made of pixels, so they blur when you enlarge them. SVG stores shapes instead, so it stays sharp at any size and cutting machines and lasers can follow its edges. The converter traces the edges of each color area and writes them as SVG shapes.
Which mode to choose
- Layered vinyl for logos, clip art and drawings: flat colors, one layer per color.
- One color for single-color decals, stencils and laser cutting.
- Full color for illustrations or photos you want to keep looking like the original, for printing or engraving.
Tips for a better trace
- Use the largest picture you have. Small pictures are enlarged before tracing, which softens fine details.
- Try High detail for small text or thin lines.
- Raise Smooth edges if curves look wobbly, lower it if corners get too round.
Questions
Which file types can I convert?
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP. For an animated GIF, the first frame is used.
Is there a size limit?
There’s no set limit. The picture is scaled to 1,000 pixels across (2,000 with High detail) for tracing, and the SVG can be any size you choose. Very large photos can be slow to open on older phones.
Will the SVG look exactly like my picture?
Close, not pixel-perfect: tracing turns areas of color into smooth shapes. Flat-colored pictures come out almost identical; photos look like a poster.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up and no watermark.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs on your own device inside this page, so your picture never leaves your browser.
Can I convert any picture?
Only convert images you made or have permission to use, especially if you sell what you make.
